I think you had such a bad experience at your old school, that you are prone to freak out a little bit if something unexpected like this happens. It sounds like they weren't trying to screw you, and they weren't even being thoughtless. They made a scheduling decision based on the best information they had. And they do trust you to teach AP, so that's cool.

Btw, only three preps. That sounds awesome. I've had 4 or 5 different preps every year.

No, I only have 2 preps. Astro and regular physics. They took AP physics completely away from me because they didn't want me to have that three prep schedule, because they were trying to divide the work load so each new teacher only has 2 preps. They are trying not to stress us out. Which I guess is good, because my old school didn't care if anyone was stressed out.

But the important thing is they still kept me teaching physics. I could have shown up and they could have said I was going to teach biology. It's happened to me before, but I really don't think this school would do that to me, because they made it clear they know the difference between the physical and life sciences. And they did trust me to teach AP, they also had something unexpected happen to them. They had to hire this other teacher literally last minute.

You should know by now that I'm prone to freak out because I'm prone to freak out, despite bad experiences. But it seems stupid to complain that I get to teach physics. So yeah. And I only have 2 preps.
