Meeeeeeeeme

Because I have a million things I should be doing that I don't want to do: a meme.

You know how sometimes people on your friends-list post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute? Since when were they working THERE? Since when were they dating HIM/HER? Since when???" And then you wonder how you could have ( Read more... )

did you know, meme

You have a chameleon?! This is unspeakably awesome; I have wanted one since I was nine.

Also, the names of your goats may having me grinning FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE!

MY STEPSON NAMED THEM. HE'S A PRETTY AMAZING KID.

"...and Joe?" I asked.

He stared at me like I was an idiot. "Duh, Liz, someone's gotta be the brains of the operation."

APPARENTLY THAT MEANS YOU CANNOT BE NAMED AFTER AN EXTINCT CARNIVORE.

No? But for a class once I had to make up a fake family and the little girl was named Eustreptospondylus. I guess maybe she didn't have any brains though... she was imaginary.

Clearly you're the brains of the operation.

God, I want to read that story. It sounds amazing.

Hi! Can I come visit you in Hawaii? It's 22 degrees in OH and my furnace is broken. :( Pretty please! I'm good with animals! ;)

I hope you don't mind a random reviewer coming over here.

You sound like you have an awesome life. For most of my childhood my goal was to be "a veterinarian specializing in marine wildlife", so your awesome has increased to amazing levels in my eyes.

Good luck on your thesis! I'm guessing it has to do with the humpback whales?

Just have one more question: small or large animals?

Of course I don't mind! ^_^

I am SO RELIEVED to be done my thesis. Now I'm an official graduate and when I say I'm a marine biologist, I don't have to add on the addendum, "Well, almost."

And to answer: both! If I'm working at the office, then it's mostly small animal, but we also have a mobile vet who does equine/bovine work and since I prefer field work (James Herriot was the reason I wanted to work with animals) I go with him at every opportunity to assist.

James Herriot is awesome. I have All Creatures Great and Small here with me, and I read a bit whenever I need a pick-me-up. My dad's a vet, so I've gotten to help out at his clinic some as emergency help, but it's small animal only. He has some awesome stories from his fieldwork as a student, though, like their teacher randomly pulling over by the side of the road so they could pick berries, which one of the students then cooked into a pie and brought to the next class.

Congrats on finishing! What was your thesis, if I may ask?

That sounds so awesome - we don't get pies when we're out in the field! (... at least, not the kind you can eat ;))

Thank you! It was on the evolving migratory patterns of Hawaiian Humpbacks due to global climate change and geomagnetic fluctuations. Really interesting stuff that we're finding through our study and from data gathered since the mid 70's - but it was super tedious to write, especially while busy with work and home life.
