wrapping up summer

Last week we went to NYC for a short vacation. We stayed just off Times Square, saw the main sights - well, mostly we saw big buildings because that's the boy's interest. Woo hoo for kiddo getting his own math class (and I'm very glad the other student in it is a girl, because I read so much about talented girls being steered away from STEM subjects at a young age).

Also, I am sooper-jellus of your trip to NYC. It's a place I've never been, but it's on my list of places I desperately want to go someday. Along with Florence, Hawaii and South Africa.

yeah Im glad there's a girl too. Our school definitely tries to keep girls involved (we're a k-8). But y'know, it's tough. Despite everyone's best efforts, the robotics team had only one girl last year, and none from 7th and 8th grae. And this is with the (female, well-liked) science teacher being a coach! partly it's just there are more choices for them to do other things, but that's equally true of the boys. And not to make robotics be the end-all, be-all of STEM or anything, since it's not, but it's just kinda disheartening that even when the school TRIES, it's not enough.

good luck on the job front, sounds like you've still got a chance, so hang in there! :D

Yeah, well, if the school didn't try so hard, I imagine there would be even fewer girls involved.

Thanks very much for the good wishes re: the job interview. It's tomorrow. Eeeek!
