Authors Note: Written for
1sentence; Beta set. I love writing these. I don’t even have to think about them, they just come out as if they have a life of their own-take “Weddings” for example. Kudos to my muse, Dark, for inspiring a few. Not in any real order.

#01 - Walking

“I promise I’ll walk him,” Cate grumbled to herself as the hyper black dog dragged her down the street, “He’ll be my dog and I’ll take all responsibilities…Ha!”

#02 - Waltz

Karin was a good teacher, and even with someone who couldn’t even do a waltz it took her only minutes before she had them twirling so fast that she couldn’t keep up with the steps; and Cate was no exception.

#03 - Wishes

“What,” she whispered into the crook of her neck, “is the point in wishing to balls of gas millions of miles away when I have everything I want right here?”

#04 - Wonder

Cate marvelled at Karin’s speed and grace as she fought the crowd of men, amazed that for once she wasn’t falling over her own feet.

#05 - Worry

“Oh my, one of those thugs actually hit you-which honestly surprises me given the speed you had- but never mind that, where does it hurt,?

#06 - Whimsy

“Karin, while sarcasm may become you most of the time, I do believe you went overboard with the phrase ‘and I shall obey your every fantastical notion, every whim and desire, Your Majesty, Alphonse’.”

#07 - Waste/Wasteland

When she caught Karen staring blankly at yet another report on the Second Gulf War, at the flashing images of what had once been a city and was now a wasteland, of screaming innocent people being killed, Cate decided maybe she should hire Fox to hurl the TV out the window.

#08 - Whiskey and rum

Karin watched in amazement as her wife met Dee shot for shot, not caring whether it was rum or whisky or tequila in her tumbler-- she tossed it back regardless.

#09 - War

She nearly fainted herself when Cate was still sitting as Dee unceremoniously fell backwards off his stool and proceeded to drool all over the floor; but instead burst out laughing as Alphonse pointed out that Dee was going to take this as a personal insult to his manhood and that the next time they met catastrophe as one could only compare with World War III would take place.

#10 - Weddings

Cate sniffled into a tissue somewhere in the middle of the rows of seats, and Wolfgang flushed in embarrassment-this wasn’t a wedding, and she’d promised him she wouldn’t cry because this wasn’t a wedding and she said she only got teary at weddings, and this wasn’t a wedding damnit it was a commitment ceremony and there is so a difference, shuddap Fox.

#11 - Birthday

The candles were blown out, but not by Cate, which made her mad; and Karin went to bed black and blue.

#12 - Blessing

With the blessing of the priest still ringing in their ears, they lost the media and hurried off to another little ceremony-a simple thing in a backyard  (and one that meant much, much more).

#13 - Bias

Jason Jean had very nearly reverted back to Karin Jeanette when the fight broke out-but it wasn’t because she was mad at the fact people were brawling in the middle of her concert, but because the fight had started between a homophobe and a man and his boyfriend (though the scuffle stopped shortly afterward as she jumped off the stage, tore them apart and dragged the offenders outside the theater by herself before yelling at the remaining crowd that any people biased against gays should shut the fuck up and get out now-her voice was heard perfectly even without the microphone).

#14 - Burning

Cate let out a sigh of relief as her fist closed around the lighter in her hand, glad to have got it away from her before she started burning things, making a mental note to go through all of her lovers pockets before they went out drinking with the boys again.

#15 - Breathing

Cate found that she had to stare, and really actually concentrate to see that Karin was moving at all; but then her chest would rise just a fraction and hot air would rush across her face, and she’d find herself thankful that her wife was still breathing.

#16 - Breaking

Cate sank to her knees in silence, eyes closed as she cried, not even looking at the phone on the floor where she’d dropped it.

#17 - Belief

“You,” Cate trailed a finger down the edge of Karin’s face as she lay half asleep, “are the reward I get for all the shit I’ve gone through.”

#18 - Balloon

If they woke up early enough, they could see the hot air balloons from their balcony, and at seeing the smile they put on Cate’s face, Karin made it her goal in life to get her in one.

#19 - Balcony

The sight of this, of this, of Karin in a dress, standing on their balcony, framed by stars and the dark of the night sky behind her, was enough to take Cate’s breath away and make her fall in love all over again.

#20 - Bane

Regardless of how she treated him, Cate could see clearly (as soon as Karinpointed it out) that no matter how much she made out like he was the bane of her existence, Alex really did love Fox.

#21 - Quiet

The silence between them was welcomed in the moments after the concerts, driving home in the car.

#22 - Quirks

It wasn’t a quirk of Fate, some little unwanted and unexpected trick she’d played on them-she’d put them together for a reason.

#23 - Question

“…Did you know Tracey was interested in Mano?”

#24 - Quarrel

Slamming doors and screaming, and when it was all over and the anger had faded, Cate was left curled on her side hugging a pillow to her chest and wondering why.

#25 - Quitting

“I found another reason why you should quit those foul things-- cigarettes cause impotency in men,” and Karen laughed so hard at how Dee’s face had paled that Cate got worried and stuck her head around the door.

#26 - Jump

As soon as the muggers jumped them, a wicked grin had appeared on Karins features, and Cate couldn’t help but feel sorry for the poor idiots.

#27 - Jester

Karin watched the proceedings sleepily, arm draped over the sleeping Cate’s side, and wondered who’s bright idea it was to give Fox and Dee matching jester hats because everyone knew a stunt like that would only lead to their comedic acts.

#28 - Jousting

“You know,” Alphonse drawled, as he regretfully pulled his hand away from Dee’s waist, “Judging by the way our dear sister uses her wife as a shield, I’d say she really doesn’t enjoy jousting with the press.”

#29 - Jewel

“Karin and Cate, Dee and Alphonse, Fox and Alex, Mano and Tracey… Everyone has their own jewel but me, it seems,” Lisa lamented as she took a drag from her cigarette; “Ah, to be single.”

#30 - Just

“Stay with me,” came the breathless whisper, “just stay with me.”

#31 - Smirk

“Ah, Karin, not so fast-you may be my wife, and you may be Alex’s sister, but I honestly don’t think I could get away with giving you one on the house tonight, and maybe it means we can stop you from setting things on fire” and she smirked (which just goes to prove how much Karin lets her get away with, says Fox with a grin, because anyone else would’ve been punched if they gave her sass like that).

#32 - Sorrow

Cate would never tell her wife, because it would brake her heart, but Cate had known Alphonse, and because of that, Dee, was going days before they’d left-but she still couldn’t help but feel betrayed when he really did go, he and his lover going god-knows-where in search of god-knows-what and leaving her to deal with the broken promises and anger and sorrow they left in their wake.

#33 - Stupidity

It was stupid, but Cate silently urged Karin on as she punched the mirror over and over, shattering the glass, cutting her skin, trailing blood everywhere-because this (angerpainbetrayalsorrowfurygutwrenchingearthshatteringpain) was something she could understand, something she knew, just like she knew violence and stupidity were the only answers to it.

#34 - Serenade

“Well, if you really want, I could stand below the balcony and serenade you, but seeing as you’re the singer around here I think I’ll stick with my ‘café by the beach’ plan, don’t you thin?”

#35 - Sarcasm

“Karin, dear, as much as sarcasm becomes you, I think using it on me as often as you do is going to be damaging to your health and my knuckles.”

#36 - Sordid

“Lisa should not be giving you these ‘word of the day’ things; I mean, really, sordid-how am I meant to put up with you using complicated words for things as simple as ‘foul’?”

#37 - Soliloquy

Cate and Lisa shared a look over the table top, and both groaned as Karin continued with her momlogue about the injustice of the canteen rules of ‘three per customer, per day, even if said customer is Jason Jean’.

#38 - Sojourn

To begin with, Cate had thought that this would be an infrequent kind of thing, once every-now-and-again, but she was wrong-not that she minded, because visits from the frog and his princess were great fun.

#39 - Share

As they lay curled around each other on the bed, hands clasped, breathing slow, Cate finally began to share with her what she should have shared so long ago.

#40 - Solitary

It was a solitary instance of anger, something that had ever been done before and would probably nevcer happen again, but Karin memorized how it looked and how it had come about, and made a note to never, ever, piss Cate off.

#41 - Nowhere

They stood on a road in the middle of nowhere, leading to and from nowhere, and they were lost-but, it was their honeymoon, and Cate thought it was fantastic anyway.

#42 - Neutral

Wolfgang’s eyes widened and he backed away from the table, loudly exclaiming “Oh no, you’re not dragging me into this-I have no say, I’m netural, I say, Cate, Karin, stopit!”

#43 - Nuance

“Don’t argue about the finer shades of meaning, blockhead-he said he loved you, that’s all that matters, right Cate?”

#44 - Near

Melting into the warm body wrapped around her, Cate was glad she’d finally found something close enough to true happiness.

#45 - Natural

It was a skill she’d had since she was little, her singing voice, but when Cate had told her it was beautiful and asked if it was a natural skill or if she’d worked for it it was the only time she felt proud of it.

#46 - Horizon

Even through the rain, the light of the sunset bled over the city, red and gold and purple creeping in from the horizon to paint the rooftops, giving everything the effect of having been painted with water colours; which of course made Karin think of that dress she bought for Cate, which of course made her think of Cate, then, inevitebly, of how damned far she was from home and why she was out here sulking over the fact in the first place.

#47 - Valiant

“No one else may agree with me on this, and I can assure you darl’, they just think you’re a moron, but I still think you were brave, Catey.”

#48 - Virtuous

“She is just honestly a good person-I couldn’t think of anyone better eqquiped to handle Karin and her overwhelming-ness,” and Wolfgang couldn’t help but agree with his lover.

#49 - Victory

Karin sighed peacefully as Cate burrowed further into her side as she slept, glad that they had finally defeated the monsters that plauged her lovers nightmares.

#50 - Defeat

It was a wonderous sight; the wrinkles around her eyes vanished and the dark that had ebbed at her eyes for as long as Karin had known her slowly fell away, leaving the calm and satisfyed face of a Cate who had defeated her nightmares
