ugh!

This family drives me absolutely bonkers. Having 18 kids is absolutely ridiculous, and I really feel badly for these children that will never get a normal life because their parents are going to keep having children as long as "God wills it."

Why don't people think that God might have also had a hand in birth control?

UGH.

What's even funnier is how they use the "opening and closing the womb" examples in the Bible. That was all specific for specific women who could not have children or desperately wanted them and prayed to God to give them a child, it's more like a miracle-sort of thing as opposed to have lots of sex and lots of babies. Another example of taking one verse and pulling it out of context.

I feel bad for the kids. Yeah, they have the right to have as many kids as they want and not use BC, and I understand why they would not (because she lost a baby due to a miscarriage induced by taking pills, afaik) but still...

That's insane. I saw an article about them around a year ago, when they had 16 kids! Now EIGHTEEN? Honestly... How do they afford to take care of these children??? Even if you had a farm or something, would it really produce enough types of food to feed 20 people on a daily basis?

Duggar said she's six weeks along and the pregnancy is going well. She and her husband, Jim Bob Duggar, said they'll keep having children as long as God wills it.

Guess they're more interested in God's will for Jim Bob's penis.

in an article about their faith it mentions that the wife is submissive to the husband, and the children are submissive to both...

fantastic.

Submissive doesn't necessarily mean the way we think. Paul says for wives to submit to their husbands. He never meant submit as in be a doormat and do whatever he says; the husband is the head of the family and is supposed to love his family the way Christ loves the church. Submit here means more respect your husband as he loves you and you respect his decisions even as you have your own, because marriage is a partnership mirrored in the relationship of Christ and the church. I am so bad at verbalizing these sorts of things, but I hate it when people go, "OMGZ those stupid Christians who think women should be submissive to their husbands!"

I have no clue if the Duggars think that though. I sure don't see the problem with children being submissive to their parents, though... kids are supposed to listen to their parents because they know better and are the ones raising 'em!

i wasn't referring to christianity as a whole, coming from a christian household myself. i was referring to their evangelical off-branch of christianity that calls for the man to be more important than his wife. that's what submissiveness comes down to in the end in a marriage. the man makes the decisions, and the woman goes along with it even if she disagrees. and it doesn't work the other way around.

no thanks!

It's funny 'cause someone brought the Duggars up on another LJ community I just read and mentioned that they get tons of religious donations to keep the family afloat. WHY?! Are there not enough real charities to support that we need to encourage this family to raise an army of children?

This family proves everything that happens in "Idiocracy" will eventually happen.
