My printer is refusing to print black. The colour and black cartridges are both pretty much full, colour is printing fine but black won't. Normal sized black text won't print at all and large black text or any black parts of pictures are bringing in shades of dark red/green/purple ( Read more... )

I was going to suggest cleaning the cartridge head with a cotton bud dipped in warm water but looks like you've got that covered. When you cleaned it did it make the tissue/whatever inky? Have you printed something black recently or not for quite a while? Giving it a good shake would be theraputic even if it doesn't help much...

I have tried passing off very dark blue/green text as black before when I've run out of ink. Works for non-important stuff, but I'm guessing the need to print black NOW means that's out.

Just in case - there are a few cartridge refill places in Bristol and those are cheaper than buying a new one. They don't usually fill yours up and give it back to you - they have a load already filled up and you get one of those - so if it's an issue with that particular cartidge you wouldn't just get it back again. Don't know if you'll be near any of them but may be worth a shot ( ... )

Yeah, it inked the tissue. The text isn't so much of an issue - can be another colour but black bits of pictures are vital!

My only suggestion is to try reinstalling the printer... it might work.... although doesn't explain why it suddenly stopped printing black.
