Can anyone recommend a good, reliable external hard drive? Or the make/brand of one anyway.

Please?

Mine is Maxtor and it has always been good to me. :)

I know it's probably not helpful to keep getting comments saying different brands are good, since it doesn't help you rule anything out, but I've got two Western Digital ones I've never had a problem with.

Thanks! I had a Western Digital one on my Amazon wishlist for ages (so long it ceased to be available before I bought it) so I assume it had good reviews when I was looking last...

Here at work we use nothing but LaCie drives - they have one of the best warranties and they just last a long time. I've had to research harddrives a lot because I'm in charge of purchasing them for our business and it really does seem the best value (size and quality) for your dollar are LaCie.

Two other commenters mentioned Western Digital and Maxtor and they, too, seem to be decent, though I don't think Maxtor's longevity is quite as long as the other two on average (mind you, a lot depends on how full and busy you keep your HD in regards to how long it lives). ;)
