SHOULD BE GRANTED.

this post is disorganized and random, because i'm just pouring out my thoughts. i don't want to explicate the whole issue, because it will take a long time, but if you want to know more, click here

anyway, i just want to briefly express my opinion on this matter.

regardless of your religious position on gays, we can all agree ( Read more... )

i tend to agree with you on this one. i think you know youre on the losing side of an issue when the only real arguement is "well, its been this way forever". i think gay divorce will be more fun, especially when its on tv.

"i think gay divorce will be more fun, especially when its on tv."

you're ridiculous

i could go on about the constitional problems with gay marrige and whatnot, but...man, nothing i could say can top that

although, i think jerry springer already has had episodes dealing with gay breakups and what not.

"But gay marriage is simply not a civil rights issue. It is not a struggle for freedom. It is a struggle of already free people for complete social acceptance and the sense of normalcy that follows thereof--a struggle for the eradication of the homosexual stigma. Marriage is a goal because, once open to gays, it would establish the fundamental innocuousness of homosexuality itself ( ... )

that article presents a good point. it was quite a stretch for me to compare the plight of homosexuals to that of blacks during the civil rights movement. but i still think the point remains that there is something being denied here. no, the constitution does not explicitly say anything about marriage. but it does say that laws can't be created which cuts down on privileges. i don't see how granting gays equality in regard to unions/marriages would bring any harm.

however, i do agree with you [and the article] that the first and most important problem to resolve is the social stigma involved with homosexuality, rather than problems with civil liberties.

one more thing: this is one of the articles that inspired my rant about equality.

More that i forgot to add yesterday...
In Christianity, there is this little book called the Bible. And it talks about this guy, Jesus. And while it's bene awhile since I've read it, I remember something in it about ACCEPTANCE. I believe it's mentioned a few times, and perhaps a life lesson. Ironic, huh?

If it's that big of a deal and that many people are going to complain about it and protest in the streets, then allow them a civil union. I can understand how some people wouldn't want gays to be married because Christianity dictates that marriage is between a man and a woman. So why not at the very least allow them a civil union, which is purely legal and devoid of religious involvement?

first i have to say that i agree, gays and lesbians alike should have marriage rights, because stripping anyone of a constitutional freedom is, well, unconstitutional ( ... )

Dear Glen:
That was beautifully put. I think people from both sides of the spectrum could take that message and agree with it.

I'm 100% with you, Liz. I think it's hard to view this as an issue. (By the way, this is Kate Darby- I was lurking on this issue of your journal, because it's interesting. ^^)

Love,
Kate
