Today was grappling, chaotic, wonderful Friday with a bit of cranky thrown in for flava. You know the kind of day I mean, especially if you deal with children. I skipped out at 3:00. I stayed after school just long enough to feed the fish, sweep the floor, and lock up. I'll go in on Sunday and plan for next week ( Read more... )

A few summers ago, I was driving home and decided to take the long way there, on a whim. I passed a woman who was sitting on her lawn with a bunch of furniture, and noticed a papasan chair, which had been my dream for as long as I could remember. I decided to keep driving, as I only had a few bucks in my pocket, but halfway home, turned back. The woman was moving away and couldn't afford to ship her furniture, so she was selling the papasan chair, among other pieces, for 75 bucks. I laughed and showed her the ten dollar bill I had in my pocket, but sat in the chair for a while, and the two of us sat in her furniture on the lawn for about an hour, drinking lemonade and giggling. When I finally got up to leave, she smiled and said, "Give me that ten, and I'll help you get the papasan in your trunk."

So now it's my "be-nice-and-good-things-will-come-to-you" chair.

That's a wonderful story, and I nice thing to remember when you sit in the chair. I imagine that papasan chairs are great for reading. I'd only need a table for my coffee and a nice reading lamp to make that the perfect environment. :)

One time I went to Ikea and bought a small bookshelf. After the cashier rang me up she handed back my credit card and said, "Thanks, have a nice day." That bookshelf is my "the-Swedish-sure-make-crappy-furniture" bookshelf.

Is it just me, or was that story incredibly moving?
