I um, uh.... is this ethical?

Anyone? I mean, I'm not trying to judge here, I'm genuinely curious.

I would say so. I suppose it's more common for it to be a friend or sister, but I don't see anything wrong with it... though I have a weird world view.

Yeah. I can't say what exactly I feel is wrong with it, but there's something.

i think its that they chose someone to be a surrogate mother that is at extremely high risk for pregnancy concerns given the fact she's 56. And i'm imagining it probably contributed to having the kids more than 2 months early.

It's also rare for multiple baby pregnancies to make it full term.

"'let someone else do it?' young man, when my mother carried you for 9 months, did SHE say 'let someone else do it?'"

It is perhaps an uncommon choice for a surrogate, but I don't think there's anything unethical about it.

The only shaky ground, I guess, is that the older the surrogate, the more risky the pregnancy probably is, for both her and the babies, and I suppose it might be somewhat regrettable that they had been hoping to adopt and now likely won't. But it sounds as if the babies and (grand)mother came through it all right, and that's the important thing.

A bit icky, maybe, but not unethical.
