On advertising

I love how advertisers like to target their audience. I don’t know if you guys have seen any of those “recycle me” ads promoting organ donation, but i see on EVERY bus that I take up here. A lot of universities are like that, though. My sis goes to the hippie school, Trent, and they are all over that stuff. At my school, they were huge on "sustainability" and like organic vegetables and PETA and bring your own fucking mug everywhere. oh. and fair trade coffee. You should've seen people freak out when we got a Tim's in the library building! but you have to keep the toronto folks happy. I don't want to pay 3 dollars for a coffee... I'd rather get it from Tim's because at least i know it'll be good and not burnt.

Universities are institutes of higher learning, but you are in a situation like those american colleges in those little towns nestled out in the country somewhere, where the school is the focal point of the town. The great thing about that is there are always very forward-thinking people, it's a great chance to learn and open your mind :)

And those signs fucking piss me off too. you are not alone.

LU is a pretty big hippie school too.....but we've got a lot of nature around the city, so it doesn't surprise me....never heard of the "recycle me" campaign, but I haven't been on a bus in a while either....and I don't have a tv right now....either way, I feel ilke a hippie when I go back to southern Ontario, and my friends up here wouldn't even call me a hippie...
