Yeah, the timing could be worse. The whole, "I told you so," vibe wafting from one of the impacted parties REALLY isn't helping either.

I so feel your pain. We had been doing 100+F without the AC. It is 25 years old, and needs to be replaced. Even more bizarre it would seem someone came into the yard and stole the fuses out of it. They cost $15 plus the $50 service call. I just can't imagine someone doing that. Hopefully they will get us through the summer. Next step is $7500 replacement.

If you replace it be sure to get a digital thermostat. That will help you control things better and increase the energy savings.

And yes, ice is definitely what got me through living without AC.

We have the digital thermostat- In my private opinion it's what did us in. Having to snap on and work too hard to cool an overheated house every day can't have been good for it.

God help you! If you were elderly, you'd be dead!

I think that happens because the elderly don't move around much. Christophe could tell you though. He's all up on "how a busted AC kills things," trivia.

As of tomorrow, there's a cool house in New Jersey that would love to temporarily house you...

Ah, homeowning! The expression "it's just one damned thing after another" comes to mind. Check your water heater.

I called my dad and told him to mark the date and time because as of yesterday I was "officially," a homeowner. All that paperwork signing and painting we did - forgetaboutit. The first emergency is what makes you or breaks you.
