my mom had her big toe and the next one removed today.

yes, removed. as in amputated.

I don't know how to process all of this.

also, which foot? for some reason, I have to atleast know that much...

she's diabetic and she had developed a diabetic ulcer on her left foot that became very infected... so infected that it got into the bone and would have continued to travel if the infected toes weren't removed. It's a blessing that she only lost two toes (although they may have to take another).
