Is it weird to *start* posting on livejournal during Lent? I do need to spend less time on the internet, but I think that writing something occasionally may actually be helpful for me, rather than just wasting time.

well, for a Pascha party you can try traditional east-europenian (russia, ukrain etc) Pascha food - kulich (sort of short bread) & Pascha (well... cottage cheese mousse?).

Definitely a Pascha party would have kulich and Pascha! (We make those here too, in Orthodox churches). I want to try to make real kulich--I often bake this other bread that is more like Greek Pascha bread--this year, so thanks for the recipe, and yes, I do read Russian. :)

In my old church, Cannon just by itself always took almost 2 hours. So I was shocked to be done in less than an hour last night!

Hmmm, so was this like the service you had there was almost two hours? That sounds like what we had last night, it is in part of great compline. It sounds like your new church uses small compline instead of great compline maybe?

The chanting was very quick, for some reason. And few people do prostrations, so that took off some time, too.
