Shrimp Chickpea Salad

The house i am living in here at Berkeley had its house Christmas dinner tonight. There are six of us, and we each made one element of the dinner. I picked to do "side dish" (I got a little carried away, as usual, and made three things, but it actually turned out that it was a pretty good amount of food for all of us!). I just discovered how to make lenten gravy:
1 T nutritional yeast
2 T flour
1 c water
shake in a jar that seals until lumps are gone, then pour into your onion+mushroom+whatever saute and cook until gravy-like

maybe a trick you already know, but it was new to me

most of my dishes are
saute onion. add chopped mushroom. add whatever else is around. season to taste (usually with herbes de provence). serve over rice. so the gravy idea just makes it that much better.

Hmmm sounds good! Nutrional yeast is one of those things I always hear about and have never really used, but I should figure out where to buy it some day.

it's great on popcorn too. in Berkeley it should be easy to find - any "natural"-type grocery should have it in the bulk bins.

I'm trying your recipe for my work potluck tomorrow (ah work potlucks during fasting seasons. what a trial. ) thanks!

Yep! Going to grad school. Well, I'm not in Berkeley right this minute--in Seattle for the holidays, but I will be back. I don't remember exactly where you are, but I know you're in the area...?

Go ahead! I've seen you around a few people's journals actually. Adding you too. Warning--I don't post too much (like at all this year!) but I am hoping to start again. And I do read often and even comment sometimes.
