Love the cake and the little story to go with it. Did anyone help you eat the cake? And what is it made from? It looks almost breadlike from the picture.
thank you. cookies told me she's been low on birthday cakes, we can't have that, so i decided to throw some danish kids' birthday traditions at her.
no, no help. when i made it i didn't think i'd need any help, but it grew to like double size in the oven. (my friend who gave me the recipe did NOT warn me about that. lol. for which she has since apologized VERY insincerely.) but, yeah, birthday cake is pretty much what i had for dinner on friday and the ONLY thing i had to eat yesterday. so now there's an arm and half a head left, which i guess will be lunch today.
it's choux pastry. which is not just for making cream puffs, for birthdays we go all in and make whole people from it. and then skip the whipped cream/custard, mostly, although in some parts of the country they add that, too.
