Sehun takes the night shift at the convenience store

The shop is empty, nothing short of what Sehun had expected. After all, which sane human will visit a convenience store at 1AM in the middle of winter?

Sehun swears loudly from his position behind the counter, taking advantage of the fact that no one would be able to hear him. Exhilaration bubbles within him and he gives himself an imaginary pat on the back for completing a task only cool, rebellious teens do. However, the bubbles pop quickly as he thinks of the six hours he has to spend alone before Junmyeon arrives for the next shift. Another sigh escapes from him, and echoes in the room, amplifying the frustration he is feeling.

He wouldn’t have landed himself in this hateful situation if he didn’t switch shifts with Jongdae.

Two days ago, his friend slash colleague, and now enemy, Kim Jongdae pushed him into the storeroom before he could leave after his shift. With slightly teary eyes, and a pout, Jongdae requested a change of shift for the upcoming Monday. Sehun didn’t know what got into him in that moment, but he decided that the other boy looked pitiful, and so he indulged in an act of kindness. But he should have known that it doesn’t pay to be kind, and he will most likely die of boredom before the next hour is up.

If there is another thing as hateful as Jongdae, it will be the CCTV right behind him. He cannot whip out his phone and catch up on the latest celebrity gossip since his manager has no life and will scrutinize every second of the tape to ensure that no one is slacking.

The bell feels extremely loud in the empty store, and Sehun mumbles his greetings halfheartedly as a customer walks in.

The newest customer is a guy decked in baggy pullover and jeans. His snapback hides his face from view, and Sehun finds himself judging the other’s fashion sense.

“Such a waste of legs,” he mumbles as the customer weaves through the aisles in an attempt to find the things he need. Sehun had always been one to believe in wearing skin tight jeans and fitting dress pants to flaunt his modelesque legs, and he can’t help but scorn the customer for hiding his figure in those baggy hip-hop clothing that makes him look like a gangster wannabe.

The customer towers over most of the display, and Sehun keeps his eyes trained on him, watching him pick up random items, and mumbles to himself for a few moments before putting it back at its original spot.

It is evident that this customer came in to escape from the cold and is going to leave without buying anything eventually. Sehun just hope that he isn't here to rob.

The customer doesn't look like he's here to rob though (not that Sehun knows what a robber looks like), and even if he is, there's nothing Sehun can do. Sehun is obviously smaller sized in comparison, and he isn't interested in suffering several stabs in exchange for the best employee award. He can live without that recognition from his angry bird look-alike manager.

Sehun returns his attention to the computer screen, blindly clicking open all the files in an attempt to look preoccupied. He scans through the files he had committed to heart, having read them numerous times whenever there is a lack of activity within the store.

"Excuse me," A low voice attracts his attention when he is at the tenth document, learning about grooming all over again.

"Yes," Seun jumps in surprise, not realizing that the customer has approached the counter. He manages to take a good look at the other boy before the customer ducks his head and pushes all his purchases closer to the cashier.

Sehun isn't supposed to find someone with horrible fashion sense attractive, but those dobby ears, huge eyes and chunky spectacles are making his heart flutter in an abnormal way. And he doesn't dislike it at all.

"We currently have a promotion for chocolates. Are you interested in any of those?" He gestures to the stash of candies lying to the right of the cashier, trying to appear nonchalant.

His eyecandy (Sehun decides that he is cute) flushes, the tips of his ears coloring which makes him look endearing before he shyly mumbles, "No thanks."

In contrary to what Sehun had predicted, this customer is a real customer, filling the counter with various products.

"Do you need a carrier?" Sehun asks.

The tall boy nods, and readjusts his cap.

All cute guys must have a sweet tooth, Sehun concludes prematurely as he scans through numerous packets of gummies. "If you're buying this much, you should have gone to the 24hr supermarket down the street. They're actually having a promotion for the drinks," Sehun tries to strike a conversation as he puts the last bottle of banana milk into the plastic bag. "You can probably save 5000 won there."

"I know," The customer replies with a soft smile, his straight, pearly teeth dazzling at Sehun. Sehun’s heart trembles slightly at the voice and smile.

How is it possible for someone to have the perfect height, perfect looks, perfect smile, and a perfectly deep voice that can melt any human's heart? It sounds delusional, but Sehun believes that this customer will be the solution to world peace. No one will be able to resist his charms.

"It will be a total of 43050 won," Sehun says, blatantly staring at the attractive customer. He has at most 5 minutes left with his eyecandy before he will be left alone to wither in loneliness for the rest of the night.

His eyecandy fumbles with his wallet, nearly dropping it onto the table as he tries to find the exact change. Sehun hates clumsy people (it might or might not have something to do with his manager constantly knocking things down with his excessively long limbs, and Sehun having to clean up after him), but he finds a smile creeping onto his face as he watches the other boy count the coins.

Their fingers brush for a moment when the customer hands him the cash and Sehun slams the notes into the cash register with too much force, willing the smile on his face to stop spreading.

"Thank you and I hope to see you again," He butchers the customary greeting by accident as he hands the carriers over. Thankfully, it goes by unnoticed, or Junmyeon will find the walls splattered with blood and a body hidden beneath the counter when he reports for work tomorrow.

The customer turns to leave and Sehun is ready to lament his loss when a bottle of banana milk is pushed towards his direction.

"This is for you," His eyecandy stutters slightly, messing up his pronunciation. "And my name is Chanyeol."

Chanyeol. Sehun tries rolling the syllables over his tongue, decidedly liking how it sounds.

"I'm -"

"Oh Sehun," The two of them say at the same time, causing Sehun to stare at Chanyeol in shock while the other boy presses his snapback lower to hide his face.

"How do you know my name?" Sehun asks, confusion lacing his voice.

Chanyeol points to the name tag residing on Sehun's chest shyly, looking adorably embarrassed about the situation.

"So you've been checking me out," Sehun teases, fingering the corners of his name tag unconsciously.

Chanyeol blushes even more at that, and escapes the store after mumbling his goodbye.

Sehun is supposed to feel disappointed, but he is not, since he heard a see you again before the taller boy disappeared.

Maybe, exchanging shifts with Jongdae isn't such a bad idea after all.

"Park Chanyeol," A loud shout comes from the direction of the kitchen.

"Have you lost your mind?" Jongdae stomps into the living room holding multiple bags of gummies. "What is with all the gummies and banana milk in the fridge?"

Chanyeol looks self-conscious for a moment before he replies assertively, "I bought them."

"I know you bought them. No other idiot will buy that many bottles of banana milk at one go." Jongdae exclaims in exasperation. "I want to know why you bought them. Why?"

"I was at the convenience store yesterday," Chanyeol starts slowly, gauging Jongdae's reaction.

Jongdae nods, gesturing for him to continue.

"And I thought that if I bought a few more items, I can spend more time with Sehun." Chanyeol smiles, a gross amount of happiness emitting from him making Jongdae feel nauseous.

"You're such a creep."

"I'm not."

"You are," Jongdae holds up a hand when Chanyeol is about to retort. "Who's the one who had been staring at Sehun for ages at the coffee shop opposite the convenience store?"

"But," Jongdae continues, "Sehun just texted me to switch shift with him for next Monday night, so your stupid tactic might be working."

"Anyway, keep your promise of giving up the X box for a month," Jongdae says, eliciting a loud groan from Chanyeol, "Or I'll spill the beans to Sehun."

Chanyeol nods gloomily, his imaginary dog ears drooping.

Oh well, he sighs. All this sacrifice is worth it when it comes to Oh Sehun.
