Paid accounts will not be cancelled.

Thank you for your inquiry. We are not cancelling paid accounts. This is a case of a Russian comment being poorly translated by auto-translator systems. While changes will be made to account levels next year, paid/perm accounts are not being canceled. Paid/perm accounts will become a sort of 'professional/elite' account type with a new name, but no one will lose any features or money on their purchased time. These accounts will in fact gain additional features over what they have now.

Thank you for posting this (may I ask where it was originally posted?). I still won't be renewing my account and I'm still very, very disappointed that this change wasn't officially made public knowledge across the whole userbase, regardless of whether it was a "poor translation" or not; surely if it had been announced on the English side, there would have been no translation issues at all!. More a case of "not what you're doing, but how you are going about doing it".

It was posted in reply to a Support ticket and has been reiterated in the newest post to this community.

That's great, thank you! I've just been reading comments on this post and the one over at News (still not through them all!)!

I'm with you on this one. The lack of communication with the rest of the user base was the thing that did it for me. This just smells bad and it's leaving a foul taste in my mouth.

This is more than just if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I think they want to drive out their non-Russian users.

The lack of communication is quite frankly pathetic. I've asked three times now between here, the newest post and over on News what is happening with moodthemes on the new feed page (apparently they don't show on the new update page because of a bug). I asked this while staff were answering other people's questions with copy-pastas and still no one can tell me if they are being scrapped/there's a bug preventing them from displaying.

I'd file a support question, but I prepped my DW for use last night. At this stage I'm not really caring if my paid account runs until Feb. Technically it should only have run until the start of Jan but has been extended so much because of all the downtime. Originally I was grateful, now it just feels like an inconvenience.

Actually I've had a DW account since Sept '09, but I've never really used it. Exploring the site last night made me happy and sad at the same time! Happy to see something that reminded me of LJ in the past, and sad because it reminded me of LJ in the past!

Yes, it does have an 'ye olde LJ' feeling about it, doesn't it. It feels well-managed, fresh and smaller. I really hope it will see a nice influx of activity coming from all of this.

When I think about why I first came to LJ (was given a code by my cousin across the pond), it was to write a journal. I realise that fandom and community are/were important to a lot of users and yes, I have had a lot of fun taking part in fandom here over the years I've made some fantastic friends, taken part in fan exchanges etc, but after ten years LJ is still primarily about keeping a journal to me. Is community enough to keep me writing my own personal journal here? No, it's not. If the community over on DW becomes stronger in the next while then that will be a bonus for moving, but I didn't join LJ for the community and now that the main function of it is being streamlined into even more a "social network", I'm outta here! If nothing else, at least I got the username I've always wanted over on DW!

Social network/Livejournal = A super oxymoron if ever I've seen one!

I'm slowly getting those paids moved over. ;> I have been thinking of moving for a couple months now. This just was that needed motivation to do it. :)
