I haven't got that part figured out yet. I feel like a total newbie, I can barely make the fonts do what I like right now. Plus, I keep a typepad journal, a pen-and-paper journal...

do you think they'll accept banana bread in thanks for making a kick-ass product?

There's lots of helpful communities on LJ to help you with design, and some FAQs you can reach from here. I've seen some really well done custom styles using the old system, or S1, which is simple to use. S2, while harder to customize, is really capable of some nifty things if you spend the time to work on it. Or, if you don't want to go through that, using one of the pre-made S2 styles.

If I were running a business, I'd accept banana bread as payment any day of the week. Except Friday, when I'd insist on bread pudding.
