Facebook & Twitter widgets

Jul 01, 2014 16:44

We've added 2 new Widgets to the Friends Feed page in the redesigned version of the site which allow you to view your Facebook and Twitter feeds. These were added so you can stay up to date about friends & news at a quick glance without having to fully break away from reading the longer entries you are reading here. We wanted to both describe how ( Read more... )

Ack! Please - change it back. We do NOT want this to become a FB clone - or extension. If I wanted anything to do with Facebook, I'd have a Facebook account. I don't.

I agree with this comment completely. I have nothing to do with Facebook and have no desire to start now. In fact, one of the reasons that I've remained here all these years because Live Journal is NOT Facebook.

I'm actually okay with this. Don't have to use it if you don't want to use it. And the widgets appear to be blockable with your favourite blocking browser add-ons.

(I have everything facebook related automatically blocked anyway, because of their recent very sinister we'll track everything everybody does on the internet at all times scandal.)

My immediate concern.

Somebody on my f-list links their LJ to their facebook account to see updates.

Is there any way from that whereby my facebook could ever be linked to my LJ?

Because I absolutely do not want facebook people being able to track me back to my LJ.

While I do not plan on using these widgets, this would be my immediate and dire concern as well. I have purposefully avoiding ever doing anything that would link my FB and LJ together because of this.

So much of my personal safety relies on keeping those two accounts FAR FAR AWAY from each other.

I suppose it depends on how much data Facebook mine.

Person 'X' links their LJ and FB accounts. FB could then theoretically harvest the IP addresses of people on 'X's f-list, and compare those to the IP addresses of people on their facebook, and connect FB names to LJ identities?

I don't normally use the feed (my own layout is customised exactly the way I want), but I wanted to check this out to see how it works. However, I'm not seeing these widgets - where are they supposed to appear?

(Incidentally, the new design doesn't seem to quite work right on smaller screens/resolutions - the "settings" button overlaps text on the right on mine here. And as for other pages, on the support page, what is clearly supposed to be a sidebar of sorts is displaying under the content, which never happened in the old design.)

I can't comment on these widgets since I don't use Facebook or Twitter. However, I'd like to point out that there still seems to be an issue with pages continually loading, also that the site keeps blocking attempts to archive entries with comments.

I was about to come and ask if anyone else had a problem loading older journal entries - they're not locked, they just 'cannot be found'.

Yes, I have that problem as well.

Yes, I have the pages continually loading problem too. It's been going on for months. Make it STOP.

Also, when I am posting on my phone and/or iPad, I get the message "Client error: Prove that you are a human. Captcha passing is required."

When I'm signed in to my account, on any and all devices, I expect to be able to post as often as I'd like w/o continually being stopped. It's infuriating.

Not especially interested in reposting things to facebook or twitter, or from facebook or twitter, and really very annoyed with the yahoos who use their livejournal account just to mirror their incomprehensible and boring tweets.

But I don't know, maybe there are people who like to do those things.

edited to add: and I do want to echo the people who say that what we like about lj is that it is not like facebook.
