Please let us see sent messages, so we have a record of what we sent to someone. :)
and also.. DO NOT turn it into some stupid messenger app that we have to download on our mobile just to freaking see our PMs a'la Facebook. It's an inbox, not an IM program. Please do not treat it as anything other than an inbox.
Please also keep it simple, no wasting space with widgets... Just leave it as a good old fashioned inbox. No fuss, no muss.
The inbox is everything to me, so please don't change it too much. I never use the Friends page etc, I just have everything sent to my inbox via tracking.
I think a search feature would be nice. Someone said to get rid of the info on the left side... I hope not! I use bookmarks A LOT so that would be a huge disappointment if I no longer had that quick link there. Also, if livejournal cuts would apply in the inbox, that would be awesome. Right now, if a comm I'm tracking posts a gallery of screencaps, it loads all of them in my inbox and can take forever!
Do not change it into some awful messaging-app looking thing. That is not what I use my inbox for at all.
I suspect that the "bookmark" functionality would likely just morph into using more standard terminology for it -- marking something as "Important", or marking it with a star, etc. The basic functionality of it (marking something as "This is important and I want to keep this!") would remain.
Sorry! I don't want to mess with your inbox; I did change my mind and ask that it could be optional to display that stuff on the left side.
I've been using the inbox for 10 years. They made a big change (a while ago so I don't remember when exactly), added that left side border and took the page links away. When desktop screens were still small and not 24", having the fixed 2" space taken up on the left used about 1/3 of the screen real estate.
1. I mostly use the inbox for pms with friends and people I mod comms with, and to track comments in comms 2. I don't use new friends, or friends updates -- they're just of no interest 3. things that would be useful
It would be good to be able to use some html in messages (similar to what you can use in comments)
ability to search the inbox, by community/poster/keyword
folders or something like that so you can group saved messages
Some sort of threaded message system for pms
ability to toggle or filter to notifications on a specific date
a priority filter, or something that would let you set new messages from certain comms or posts to always appear at the top of your inbox
have cut tags and spoiler tags work in the inbox -- if you get notifications of new posts to a comm, they can be huge
The thing I'd like most would be the ability to use HTML, so that I can underline or italicize portions of the text; I'd also like the ability to use the LJ "username" tag. I don't completely understand the "Bookmarks" or "Suspicious Messages" functions - they don't seem to apply to the way I use LJ. The whole Inbox interface is klunky, obsolete-looking, and awkward.
In the current interface, bookmarking an item basically just marks it as important -- anything that you bookmark (by clicking that little flag icon that appears right next to the checkbox for an item) will appear in the Bookmarks "folder" when you click Bookmarks on the left side. (Meaning, when you click that word on the left, the Inbox area will re-sort to show only things that have been bookmarked.) I think it also protects that item from being deleted if you use the "delete all messages" option.
The suspicious messages folder will contain any private messages you've been sent that were automatically detected by the system as being likely to be spam. That system can sometimes catch legit messages, though, so if you see a number displayed by that folder (which would indicate unread items in the folder), you should check it to make sure it really is spam, etc.
Threaded view yes, as someone mentioned above, but, as with gmail, please let us have the option to view the messages individually, with the 'sent message' along with it. Much like email.
I would much rather my LJ inbox mimic an email inbox.
