I use all the features, thanl you very much. All I ask is you add inbox capability to mobile livejournal (m.livejournal.com in browser) that would make it perfect for scrapping out the full version of livejournal on browsers & make the mobile site running stand-alone! I don't have the app as I cannot update my iOS (beats me) & apps crash a lot on my iPad (using Safari browser & now Dolphin browser). I rarely receive messages but I send out a ton of them, I like the bookmarks & stuff, esp. the html posts, thanks a lot (don't see anything I'm missing out on!)
Nothing is going to happen to the messages that are currently in the inbox when these changes occur, correct? I have messages from people who no longer use the site or have passed away and I really don't want to lose those.
Right. Any changes made would be to add functionality or change appearance/behavior. The actual content itself would be left alone (the messages, the notifs, etc.)
This terrifies me. I use my Inbox for everything, very rarely do I visit my friends page. All coms, friends LJ's, and thread tracking I'm interested in I send to my Inbox. Please don't mess with a working system that I've got personalized the way I like it.
I do however agree with:
1. Allowing both LJ cuts and Spoiler cuts to function on the Inbox page 2. Being able to click on a specific page number instead of methodically clicking one by one.
1. Useful functionality: I mostly use the inbox feature for long conversations and appreciate that the character limit is much higher here than it is over on Dreamwidth. Mostly the inbox works fine. I would be totally okay with it staying exactly as-is. I like being able to go back and read older messages. I like everything about how LJ handles marking messages as read or unread. I like being able to look through sent messages as well as received messages.
2. Haven't yet figured out the bookmarks feature.
3. Text search would be nice. Or finding messages from a specific person. E.g., if I'm going back through older messages looking for a conversation I had with one person and I know who that person is, I find myself wishing I could just display only that person's messages. Or search for words I remember using in the conversation. Or searching by date sent or received.
I would like to reiterate that it isn't broke and doesn't, strictly speaking, need to be fixed. But some kind of search function might be nice.
In the current interface, bookmarking an item basically just marks it as important -- anything that you bookmark (by clicking that little flag icon that appears right next to the checkbox for an item) will appear in the Bookmarks "folder" when you click Bookmarks on the left side. (Meaning, when you click that word on the left, the Inbox area will re-sort to show only things that have been bookmarked.) I think it also protects that item from being deleted if you use the "delete all messages" option.
It occurs to me that the bookmarks should simply have their terminology updated to match modern norms better. These days when I see the word "flag", I think of marking/reporting as abuse or spam or whatever, so seeing that little flag icon now worries me in a way it didn't when I started using LJ a decade ago.
