A second try at the poll posted earlier (a few issues with the first one!?!). If you took the first version, it would be cool if you could take this one too, but don't worry -- we'll consider the first version's results too

again, my question is- if we subscribed to this comment/friends list to cellphone feature, what would happen while we are on the computer? will the notifications still be sent to our phones? would we have to turn on and off the feature every time we use the computer to keep our phones from buzzing?
Thats a good point and why I listed being updated by cellphone everytime it updates as low. I use to use email to update me when someone had commented or posted but I kept getting spammed because people were so active and I didn't need to know EVERY change. I haven't used it in a while but if its still the same they need to set it up so it only informs you once of changes since you last logged on your LJ. That would be less annoying and might be handy.
How about we work out the bugs in the current system first? Like I have US Cellular. No matter what, I have never been able to receieve ANY text messages sent to my cell phone through my profile.
Fix what we have before adding more services, thanks.
Text-messaging through userinfo works fine for me. I use Telenor (Norwegian service provider), though.. but still. At least I've never had any problems with it.
You are correct in that the text messaging function varies depending on your provider. However, my understanding is that the service is limited by the way your provider handles SMS / anyway. If, for example, your provider requires you to log in to recieve email via SMS, then LJ's text messaging function cannot work - and that's not a bug with LJ, it's a problem kicked up by your provider. Some providers don't require you to log in to receive SMS email, but they'll just send you an SMS to tell you you've got email. Again, this'll render the LJ text messaging system useless. It's not LJ's fault that there's little consistency between providers.

Good work and good luck with getting this service up and running!
*crosses fingers that it will be offered in Canada eventually*

seems like a hassle.

if not- what if the service screws up? we'd never receive notice
if so- we'd have to sift through an inbox full of comments we already read.
