thank you! there are certain things that i like about each, but overall i think i prefe xcoliber. but really that could just be because it's been so long since i used dystopia.
I like Dystopia better out of the two, for numerous reasons. Dystopia doesn't abuse white space, which XColibur does, at least in my opinion do. I can't use it because I will get headaches from the overkill of blue and white together, which is odd because I love blue and white, especially the shade of blue they use.
I also love Dystopia because the layout is static, but unfortunately isn't updated with S2 benefits. I noticed it HAD been updated recently, but not with links I would use frequently. Dynamic menus are a hassle to me because I prefer static nonchanging links to things on the site. I realize LJ is growing and wants to appeal to people, but I stick with the old layout because I just prefer it for my needs. I just wish it was updated more often with newer things, but it's outdated so what can I expect? It's like wishing the Internet Explorer 7 hadn't tried so hard and made itself all ugly in the process.
Also, XColibur seemingly breaks, and often. I can't be the only one who noticed taht in that layout, often times the CSS
( ... )
I didn't realize it hadn't been updated with the S2 links. I always have to go find them through the FAQ. I didn't realize Dystopia was the "old" system either. Even before I knew there was another option, I hated xColibur. When I found out there was another option, I was thrilled. Okay, maybe "thrilled" is too strong a word. hehe I was happy. :-)
Awesome suggestions.. yes. Those are needed. Plus a direct link to the 'customize' page too, I guess. Although I haven't made the switch from S1 to S2 yet.. ^^; *seems to not like change all that much*
You have such adorable icons! Anyway...yes, that would be a good one, too. I have to click on a bunch of links in the customizing before I can find anything I want.
I finally switched to S2, but only because I wanted to be able to use the tag feature. I'm also a creature of habit, so I kept the generator style only in S2, and my boyfriend volunteered to hack into the code to make it look pretty much like my old journal. :^)
I tried using S2, but I simply couldn't get it to look how I wanted it to look. When I eventually went and got myself a paid account I figured that I'd rather sit and tweak something I felt familiar with, than try and learn everything that I could about S2.. it just seemed like too much work.
The tag system is quite nifty.. I have to agree. But I still haven't put it to use. I'm also too lazy to go back almost three years worth of entries to tag them all. Ah well.. who knows, maybe I'll make the switch sometime in the future.. and also start using tags. Hm. One never knows ;)

I started out with Dystopia when I registered my LJ in '03 and hated it, so I switched over to XColibur and it has been that way since.
