Doesn't it seem ironic that they're asking for someone who's concerned about privacy issues or sharing personal information on their blog to appear on their tv show to talk about it?
Hah.. yeah. I just hope this show won't add more "Oh, LJ is all about emo 14 year olds and drama, drama, drama" attitude amongst people who doesn't know the LJ community personally :/
I'm kind of tired of getting ridiculed by friends at other forums or sites because of the fact that I have a LJ :/ Giving them more fuel for their teasing = bad :P
yea, articles and shows always seem to give a more negative view to blogs- I wish they would do something on the many people who blog to keep in touch with far away friends or just to keep a journal that happens to be only, peple who make use of friends only features etc.
I've never experienced anything scary or felt unsafe about what I post in my blog(s), and I've had my LJ for 3 years :P I also live in Norway, so I'm just not able to be a part of this at all, but it does sound like fun. Would it be possible for LJ to share the LJ related part of the show with their userbase and international users who doesn't have American tv at home? At least provide a transcript or something.. since I'm interested in knowing what the person selected will say :)
I completely agree. Although.. ehm the media here (Norway) has never really talked about how "unsafe" the combination internet + kids is. Unless you count printing a couple of "Stay safe using the internet" lists and such. :P
We have nice friendly posters next to the computers in the libraries that says: "When chatting with strangers, do not share personal information like your name, address, parents' name etc" Also "If you feel confident about meeting a person you've met online, talk about it with an adult first, and be sure to meet the person together with a friend or preferable an adult and in a public place."
Most kids know and follow these rules. No point of making a big deal out of it o_o;
Anyway.. yees. I agree with what you said xD Sorry for babbling. I'm just in a talkative mood today o_o;;
Yes, I know. So sad -_-; *sigh* Ah well. At least I know better :P
And I haven't really heard about any kidnapping cases here in Norway, although I am sure it has happened and happens all the time, but.. hm haven't really heard of it, at least not girls/boys/whatever that has been abducted by people they met after talking to them on the internet.
Hmm I'm an American University student, 18, live in DC literally right across the street from NBC's Washington studios. Probably too late to be picked though.
