Hello LiveJournal!

I'm going to take a few moments to explain the plan behind LiveJournal's recent announcement to purge suspended accounts. I know the initial announcement was a couple of months ago, but I assure you we are still moving forward with this. In fact, we halted all account purging while we modified our worker scripts to handle ( Read more... )

This is all very well and good, but I'm honestly much more interested in getting the comment notification problems fixed since it's been broken for 7 months now (and no longer even gets mentioned).

Strange, I've been getting comment notifications fine for at least the last month. There was a time when some where getting lost, but that seemed to be fixed.

It's not the standard comment notifications (although there are still problems there from time-to-time) but it's an issue with when I've made a post and turned comment notifications off. I used to always still get notified of the replies to any comments I made it said post (rightly so), but just before Christmas that stopped happening and LJ said they were going to fix it and just haven't.

Thanks for explaining this in detail!

I'm not sure if this will be answered in the news post, since it's not up yet, but I figured I'd ask anyway. :-)

1) After the suspended accounts have been purged, will the usernames be available for other people to adopt?
2) What about inactive usernames?
3) What is the period of time in which an active account becomes inactive? A year of no activity? Two? Longer/shorter?

I was wondering # 3 myself as well. And what counts as No activity? Not logging on? No posts? No posts and no commenting other places?

From the news post daluci July 14 2010, 23:43:04 UTC
"A journal is defined as inactive if it has not been logged into for 24 consecutive months. A community is defined as inactive if has not been updated for 24 consecutive months. Once an account is eligible to be purged for inactivity, the owner will be sent an email to alert them of the inactive status. The owner will then have two weeks to log into the journal or post to their community to prevent it from being deleted. If the owner does not log in or post, the account will be deleted and treated like any other deleted account (the owner will have 30 days to log in and undelete the account to prevent it from being purged)."
