As I said in this support request, not having a next button when you hit a protected entry frustrates me. I went and learned some javascript and came up with the below monster link. It takes the URL of whatever entry you are looking at and goes to the next entry in that journal. I tried this on a bunch of different entries, some with weird ( Read more... )

Why? Greasemonkey applies javascript to the page itself, this doesn't need to. As it is now, this is something that can be used in any browser that allows javascript addresses in bookmarks. (which is pretty much all of them, I think)

My bookmarks bar is full already, I much prefer having something visible in the page itself than up in the bar where I can probably forget it exists.

Potatoes and potatoes, but having both options would make everyone the happy.

Well here is a quick script I wrote.

http://wetnun.net/lj/lj_forbidden_nav_buttons.user.js

It does have a couple minor issues like it will put the links at the bottom of this page as well since I posted the error message into it. But for those without permission you can hit his protected entry with it.

If people have suggestions to make it better let me know.

Oh. And if you happen to use IE and Trixie then here is the script for you.

You'll probably have to restart IE to see the changes.

That is patently HAWT.

Like, for seriousness. I've wanted something like this for a long time. Thanks.

And serious kudos to the OP for bringing this up in the first place.

No problem. I was confused at first since I never step through people's journals like that. But I guess it's something a lot of people do. *Shrug*
