For some time now, I've been playing with variations on the standard Livejournal user icon.¹ If you look at my
reference pages, you can see hundreds of such icons made by myself and others, in a variety of themes. Now, I'm putting together an
LJ Usericon Creator so that anyone can make their own customized usericon. (I generally use

This is going to sound like an uber-n00b question, but is there any way to change it for just your username only? I followed the instructions from ephi and it worked, but now it's doing it in my comments for ALL users, and not just posts/comments I've made. I just want it to do it any time it shows up for my account. (I'm guessing it's going to be more CSS hacking, right?)

What would be awesome is if LJ had an option that lets you put in a custom userinfo.gif for just your name that would show up anywhere you use it on the site. there would be 2 different settings "myinfo.gif" and the general "userinfo.gif"
And I'd love to prove you wrong, but I don't know CSS. It's on my list of things to learn.
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! You answered my question, and unfortunately it wasn't the answer I wanted, but I know there's nothing you can do about that.
Thanks for the awesome usericon generator. I know doing pixel images is a bitch and a half (I'm trying to work on some 80x30 stuff for work and it's kicking my butt), so I've got some mad respect for you.

I compose my entries in a program I've created, which has options for custom user tags and other code I like - but I doubt you'd want to switch to it from Semagic, since I haven't worked out (yet) how to get my tool to automatically post to LJ. Currently, after I've composed my entire post with the code I want, I still have to do a cut/paste to get it into LJ.

...Or if they just had a different icon for you than they used for everyone else. Then you could customize it the same way you can already customize the generic one.

I understand. I've still got a long list of things I need to learn (one of them, eventually, is to work out the direct connection to LJ, but I haven't really put much time/effort into that yet ( ... )
