Visions v2 - a Dystopic Vertigo

Mar 16, 2007 03:42

Updated 2007-06-25: This skin will now work on the new Vertigo scheme. However, keep an eye out on lj_nifty this week as I'm hoping to make a fairly big announcement. Stay tuned!

Today (as I write this), the new Vertigo site scheme was announced. The site scheme is pretty similar to Dystopia in terms of its structure, but different in terms of the links ( Read more... )

I'm a huge fan of Dystopia and was one of the people that would whine about updating the style. I liked Vertigo when I saw it, and when I wrote my feedback about it, mentioned the use of the darker link colors like you applied in your new skin. (LOVE the darker link colors)

Thanks so much for doing this!

They still haven't set a default background color with Vertigo. Does your style do that? If so, I may use this.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean.

Dystopia *did* put a background image on the page, but that was to serve as the background of the left menu bar and was overridden by the white main area. In this respect, Visions does the same thing, so if that's what you meant, then yes, it does.

If it's not what you meant, could you clarify? Thanks. :)

body {background:something}

All of the post-6A styling of LJ tends to assume that you haven't changed the default background color from white. People who have done this can be relied upon to point this out. I'm not sure they've ever actually fixed this, despite it being Best Practices to always set the background if you're setting text color!

Ah, gotcha. I used to do the same thing - I hate it when people don't set background colours when setting text colours, and I'm annoyed with myself that I dropped the ball on this one.

Anyway, the style on userstyles.org has now been updated, so you can update it from there. :)

That's awesome. Long live Dystopia, in appearance anyway. 8)

Just FYI, on your links to the screen shots, you need to take off the "/g2" at the end.

Thanks for the heads-up. I actually had moved those photos to a hidden ScrapBook gallery since I had produced updated screenshots but by then I had already submitted the lj_nify post and it was sitting in the moderation queue, so I couldn't edit it; so I simply moved them to a hidden gallery and made new ones available.

I've updated the original post now to use the newer pics (although even those are *slightly* outdated, heh.) Thanks!

Cool... next trick is to figure out how to make this work entirely server-side, without requiring browser changes.

To be honest, it wouldn't be too hard, but I don't see that LJ staff would implement two different Vertigo site schemes because people would wonder firstly whether there were any differences between the two, and secondly why there are two site schemes that look almost exactly the same. :D

Well, I meant being able to customize it per-person on the server side, just as we can customize the look of our main journal pages with S1 or S2. (Well, at least in S1 I can add custom CSS, dunno about S2.)

But I did submit feedback to them telling them I like Vertigo except that it doesn't have the Dystopia color scheme. :-)

At least now I figure they'll be less likely to randomly change my scheme on occasion. They didn't seem to be happy about me using Dystopia.
