Suggested Support Change

Apr 02, 2002 01:09

This has been brought up informally in various places, but never formally discussed. And since several other support improvements are in the works (of which I am very appreciative) it seemed a good time to find out if this would be a wanted change ( Read more... )

we already have long had a support guideline in place calling for volunteers to read back over their response before posting it, and making everything go through screened would encourage that, i think. although a priv could of course always post screened and simply turn around and approve without the review, i doubt that would be a major problem with the current crew, and it could always be relatively easily monitored and disciplined if too much poor traffic slipped through. and any additional time introduced by the process would be a fair exchange for the potential improvement in quality

since this is an open posting, i'm going to point to it from the customization community for any additional comment from that group

Thanks for pointing out the thread. :)

Very much in favour, since I'm careful to always post screened first off anyway. Often you notice something when you read it back, and that way there's no harm done.

definitely.. with the absense of a "are you sure?" type confirmation screen, i prefer to screen myself if for no other reason than to see that everything looks alright, the links work, etc.. the textentry box is too small for me to always be able to catch everything skimming through. and i do think that the default should be that if i mess up, i only embarass myself privately.

I'm definitely in favour of this, as I would like to see the Answer option gone completely. This would be a good step in the right direction. There just isn't any reason for Screened not to be default. I can see a lot more problems with it defaulting to something public than the small inconvenience it takes to change the drop down box to something else. I would love to see all answers go through as screened first and then be approved, but this isn't something that can be enforced while not everyone, particularly the people who've been around a long time, agree. Also, like macheide said, people who don't care to post screened for any reason other than being forced to would just approve immediately afterwards without checking. I've seen this a few times already, when posting screened isn't compulsory, just frowned upon when it means your answer came in after a few good ones, or you missed something out and it needs to be added as a comment. Most people are good with it though.

But yes, please get this in.
