Wanting a bonsai

I got a "lucky bamboo" plant from my girlfriend for christmas, and now after getting it in a neat setup, i would like to get a bonsai, i've been wanting one forever. I've looking at the ones in stores, all glued into their pots and stuff, but i found a vendor at our local flea market who has little seedling starters, of all varieties. so, my ( Read more... )

IMO the best tree for indoor bonsai is a Ficus. You definately don't want one of those poor little junipers glued into a pot. Their chances of survival are so very low, even in experienced hands.

I agree. A ficus is a good indoor starter. Good for you - avoiding the glued in the pots 'bonsai'. That being said, if you have any bonsai nurseries near you, that would be the best place to start. Most bonsai nursery staff are great and many offer classes. Many areas have bonsai clubs too which is a great way to learn. Drop a line back if you want some more info on online bonsai groups.
