Im a beginer also and i am planning to start a red maple from a seed... I dont think it will be a horrible experience just a learning one.. how will you learn if you dont try right? O and about the shaping thing... you dont have to shape it with wire but you should root prune it because the roots can strangle themselves...

Aye, I don't think it could hurt myself :) Maybe I'll buy a small tree from a garden centre too, and train it as a bonsai, though, just to keep me interested and get some practice while the other(s) grow. I gather it's best to grow a few from seed, in case some don't take (or you mess it up ;)

Thanks for the info on roots. And good luck with your bonsai. I'll look forward to hearing how you get on :D

What about blueberry shurbs? They're tiny naturally, I have a hard time believing they would grow huge in any conditions. They're very cute and have pretty leaves. Them there's lingonberry, although they usually have only one stalk, but I've seen split ones, too.

So basically I'm hoping someone else with more knowledge and experience will be able to answer weather or not berry-trees can be grown indoors.
