Hello, I'm new to the community, and to bonsai-ing. About a week, ago, I got a bonsai for my birthday. It's a Ficus Benjamina KiKi. It's been doing good, I water it everyday and it's got a lot of new leaves coming in that are a nice green color ( Read more... )

If it's young, it'll probably look twiggy ( ... )

Thank you very much! :-) My uncle (the one who bought it for me) actually bought it at a bonsai house, so it's already nicely set it a good sized pot and the rock aren't glued to it at all, so luckily, I don't have to worry about repotting it, for awhile at least.

It's very good to know that my ficus is a resilliant type. Once I know more about bonsais and how to take care of more types, I'm looking to expand into different types. Thank you for all your advice, it really helps a lot! :-)

Im new to the community and wasgoing through old posts. I just got a mini jade plant today, and I was wanting to try my hands at bonsai. So I should trim the top branches to try to get the trunk to thicken? Would it work on Jade?

Hey, it's like meeting someone with your first name when you're walking down the street. I have a Ficus Benjamina Variegata. Which basically means I have a ficus with green/white leaves. I really havent done much but water it when I thought it needed it, my house is really dry and often drafty, but it's lasted a good long time and is still really healthy. I read a bit about ficus a couple months ago, and it seems important to remember to be careful of the little leaves at the end of stems, since the removal or death of one of these could stunt the branch for a long time, if not permanantly. Perhaps I'm wrong, but you might check it out before clipping them ( ... )

I'd be happy to post pictures once I can get some. I haven't really been able to find some good reads about my ficus, so I've been a little wary to prune it. I think I'm just going to let it grow out more before I prune it, just in case. When I do prune it though, I'll heed your warning, thanks! I was nervous, originally, when I got it, because I haven't much of a clue what to do, but now that I know Ficus Benjamina is really hardy, it makes me feel better. :-)

Thank you for your help and I'll be sure to post pictures as soon as I can! :-)

Awesome!

I'm looking forward to the pics, whenever you get them.

No need to thank me, hope everything goes alright!
