I only find chanting to be particularly helpful in group magic, as it aids the participants in bringing their intentions into a tight mutual focus.

No, I don't... It might be because I haven't found a chant that really works for me, but as has been said chants seem to work better in a group. Listening to stuff by Reclaim or even the Witches' Chant by Inkubus Sukkubus, their stuff has a tendency to lift you up where the same chant chanted alone wouldn't have the same effect.

I'd have to agree that the only time I would consider chanting would be in a group setting.

It's easier for me to slip into a trance and what-not in a quiet atmosphere, so trying to chant (or any other noisy method of slipping into a trance) would not be beneficial to me.

I make music or memories the raising energy part when solo. When in group, I usually follow the group. I very often try to match the emotion of the spell with the energy I raise. I can often then add a chant to this to keep the energy flowing. After so many chants, I may then enter a trance and then break it loudly (if the spell requires a lot of energy like heavy sadness, anger, joy) or softly if it's something more peaceful. I've just posted some couplets that I've composed for chants. I haven't used all of them by any means....they're just there. If I can find something older somewhere out of say an Irish sayings book, latin verse or elsewhere, I might do that too.
