He'd be more dangerous alive... he got a quick end and burial. It's much simpler and less likely to raise more secondary violence.

We don't want him in the news every day as politicians bicker about what to do with him, and as he is able to keep manipulating his followers through media.

Yes, it's not ideal American justice, but I'm not going to get too upset that he met a quick end.

As I understand it, the chance of taking him alive was nil. He may not have been armed, but several sources have reported that he had a body guard with him at all times with orders to kill him if need be to prevent him being captured or killed by the West. He wanted to be in control, he preferred being killed by his own to allowing us the "honor" of taking him out. (For that matter, he may have been actually killed by his bodyguard, I don't know or care.)

With chances of taking him alive slim and none to start with, and the whole thing being pretty tight to get in and out anyway, my understanding is that the Seals have been training for months in a mockup of his compound with the goal of just taking him out.

It's really a no-win situation.
He's a martyr now! vs. He's the guy who continues to fool the Westerners!

imo bin Laden would not have been of value because where ever he was held would become a terrorism magnet. That's why they buried him at sea, they contacted Saudi Arabia his birth nation and they didn't want the pilgrimage. However, spending 20mins to gather intel was very valuable.
