Pro-choice charities

I am looking for a charity supporting the education and health of women that takes a pro-choice stance. I would dearly love to support 'Women on the Waves' but as I will be fund-raising with quite a varied group, I know it would be way too controversial for some to accept and sadly, more likely to get us thrown out than given donations.

Good idea, its the sort of charity nobody wants to disapprove of.

I really like it but I think I'd have to wait for another time to support it. Sadly I don't think we'd get much support (carol-singing in a fairly conservative area, in the past we've had the existence/purpose of http://www.smiletrain.org questioned)

Save the Children does some great, generally non-controversial work that includes reproductive health. They are very pro-choice because they see the connection between maternal and child health

Good idea, their policies seem excellent and people tend to like child related charities at Christmas.

I don't know how mellow you're looking for, but Unicef is a big supporter of family planning yet they neither provide abortions nor distribute contraceptives. They're on Bush's shit list because they won't support abstinence-only sex education, but they're a far cry from planned parenthood.

I don't mind mellow, just so long as its not abstinence only and although I would like to
support Marie Stopes or equivalent, I know that some of the people I'll be singing with are "pro-life" (though not madly so) therefore my suggestions need some degree of subtlety.

I'm amused to read this on the charity bulletin for the 'Society for the protection of unborn children':

"A study by Dr Doug Sylva entitled “The United Nations Children’s Fund: Women or Children First?” (Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute,
2003) reports and analyses the gradual change in UNICEF from being a child survival agency to promoting “radical feminism” and abortion." - sounds good to me

yeah UNICEF is a good suggestion that, like Amnesty International, will only rile the most staunch, tapped in anti-choicers. plus its even less controversial.
