Dodgeball

I saw Dodgeball the other day and noticed something strange.

At the end of the movie when they are crowding around the treasure chest after winning, the treasure chest has the words "Deus Ex Machina" on it. Am I the only one who noticed this? Are my eyes just messed up?

Why would they put a hidden Matrix character in there?!

Deus Ex Machina is Latin for 'God out of a machine'. It's the phrase used for any contrived plot device that saves the day and doesn't really make sense in the situation. The name came from Roman (and possibly Greek) play writers wrote themselves into a corner and couldn't think of how to get teh ending how they wanted; they just had a random God come down and save the day.

If you're familiar with Harry Potter: many people say the time-turner was a Deus Ex Machine in Prisoner of Azkaban.

I was laughing when I checked the Revolutions subtitles and found they'd named the thing Deus Ex Machina because despite it not really being the traditional meaning, it was an excellent twist on the phrase.

I don't know the game you were playing, so I hope that makes sense!
