A GIFT FOR DOREY (doreyg)
FROM HATTIE (madhattie34)

Authors Note: This assignment was friggin crazy but in the end, it was actually quite fun. Completely not canon at all. But I hope you enjoy it.

What I would like to receive: An Iliana/Kestrel with at least one surprise kiss in front of both their families would be nice (Bonus points for added Thierry!)

One Disruptive Kiss

Thierry sighed. Maybe having a ‘Bring Your Parents to Circle Daybreak’ party for Christmas hadn’t been such a good idea. Sure, in theory the war had ended, and all races were living together in peace and harmony, but it didn’t always work out like that. The senior Redferns, for example, were sulking in a corner. And the Dominicks, (whom all the witches still insisted on calling the Harmans), were still lingering by the doorway, seemingly flinching whenever any of the Night World approached them.

But the evening was almost over, now. The music had slowed into that softer and deeper twilight music, and across the dance floor, soul mates were clasped together in love’s embrace, swaying gently in time. He longed to join them, but he was playing the good host, and Hannah was trying to encourage the more weary parents to socialise somewhere in a corner. He could feel her presence, and left her to it. It was enough just to know she was there.

He saw Iliana, who had been dancing earlier in that typically rhythmless human way, now hanging around the punch bowl in a lonely and dejected sort of way. At first, he thought she was looking at Galen, but then he saw that her gaze travelled past the entwined shapeshifters to another, quite drunk, figure, picking a fight with a witch Thierry couldn’t, quite guiltily, remember the name of. He looked closer and saw that it was Kestrel Redfern - well, no surprise there, with that temper.

Kestrel seemed to finish her argument triumphantly, leaving the young witch looking quite frightened, and then turned to scan the room with the eyes of a hawk, looking for its next victim. They rested on the blonde Wild Power, and the gazes met.

“Hey!” Kestrel shouted, “What do you think you’re looking at?”

Iliana said nothing, but smiled like a guilty preschooler.

Kestrel charged across the room. The dancing stopped. The chatter stopped. The music stopped… or maybe it didn’t, and people just stopped hearing it.

“Nobody,” Kestrel said, with a slight slur in her voice, “Stares at me and gets away with it.”

“I’m a Wild Power and I’ll do what I like,” Iliana retorted.

Dear God, Thierry thought, It’s like this girl wants a broken nose.

“I’ll wipe that smirk off your face!” Kestrel spat, “I’ll…”

She kissed her.

The whole room collectively gasped.

By the doorway, Mrs Dominick uttered a pathetic little “Oh, my.”

Kestrel pulled away.

“You know what?” she said, “You don’t kiss half bad, considering you’ve only practised on humans.”

“Who told you that?” Iliana replied, with a sexy little wink.

There was a crashing from the doorway as the Redfern parents furiously stormed out. Thierry shook his head sadly.

After that, activity resumed. Thierry thought, You can’t have a good party without at least one disruptive fight, and one disruptive kiss. Especially not in the Night World.

Iliana’s parents crept up to her guiltily.

“I think we’re going to go home,” her mother said, “It’s getting kinda late…”

“Sure, mom,” Iliana smiled, her arm wrapped around Kestrel’s waist. “Have fun. See ya later.”

“What time do you think you’ll be home…?” Her father asked, hopefully.

“Oh,” Kestrel said, with a smile that bore pointed fangs, “She won’t be.”

The couple kissed again. Thierry could have sworn that he heard Mrs Dominick whimper.
