LJ-Sec updated to version 0.71

Jan 31, 2008 10:47

LJ-Sec is a bulk journal entry management tool. It allows you to bulk change post security, delete posts, find and replace items, repost journal entries to other LJ-compatible servers, and other assorted odds and ends.

Configuration saving broke in 0.70 (maybe earlier)... this issue has been fixed in 0.71.

Hi! Forgive me if this has been asked many times before, but I was wondering if adding comments (and hopefully moods too?) in addition to entries to upload to another journal would be possible in the near future? If not, is there another program out there that you know about? Thanks so much and keep up the great work. I love this program and it's been very beneficial to me. :)

Comment transfer: It's a possibility as long as you take the comments in one journal and append them to the actual journal entry in another. This would act a little different than what one might expect, so I guess I don't know whether the demand would be there given this limitation.

Moods: I think they should transfer already, though it would depend on whether the receiving journal also supported moods.

...? Do you mean if I wanted to move an entry from one LJ account to another LJ account, the comments with it should be transferred also? I tried that, actually, and it didn't work. No comments were transferred.

This would act a little different than what one might expect, so I guess I don't know whether the demand would be there given this limitation.

Are you saying the comments transfer option won't be added to ljsec unless more people request it?

Moods: I think they should transfer already, though it would depend on whether the receiving journal also supported moods.

They don't. I tried it already. I transferred my entire LJ to another LJ, but the moods weren't there.

Thank you so much for your speedy response, by the way. I really appreciate it. :)

For comments, I meant in the future. Sorry about the lack of clarity. You can't transfer comments now and Livejournal's interface really doesn't support that directly.

There is a workaround of sorts I've thought of where you grab all the comments and append them to the journal entry itself. I know that if I could transfer the comments directly there would be a demand. With this workaround, however, things would look totally different. Nobody could reply to any of the transferred comments on its own thread, they would have to create a new comment thread. Managing transferred comments can only be done by editing the journal entry. Given these restrictions, I'm not quite sure how useful this feature would be. It might be better than nothing.

What journal host are you transferring to? It may simply be that the two mood sets the journals use are incompatible with each other, which unfortunately I can't do much about. :(

For some reason I can't access the page. It keeps timing out on me. Any idea what's going on?

I think my web host was having issues earlier this morning. I'm able to access the page now...

It's a thought -- you can search and completely replace tags with multiple keywords now (by using the search to check posts and then using tag management to replace tags) but you can't *collapse* tags like that. Will think of the best way to do this. :)

I think there was a utility posted to lj_nifty that can do what you're talking about.

My previous version of lj-sec ceased to work after problems with my hard drive, I assume due to loss of some essential files when my hard drive was resurrected. I downloaded the most recent version after deleting the files and folder for the previous version. But when I click on the icon I get a message telling me it can't find a configuration file and will revert to a default configuration and then I get the usual Microsoft error prompt message, asking me if I want to report the error.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled three times. Still the same problem.

There was also a message about a file called sorttbls.npl that was missing.

Unfortunately, when you see this message, it usually means that your installation of the .NET Framework 2.0 is corrupt. You should go to Add/Remove Programs in the control panel, and try to perform a repair of the .NET Framework first. If not, uninstall, then reinstall the .NET Framework. If the normal uninstall fails, someone has written a tool to help remove corrupt instances of the .NET Framework.

Thanks very much Chad. After much toing and froing I managed to remove all traces of .NET Framework v1, 2& 3 from my PC with the help of the tool you recommended and reinstalled them and lj-sec which looks like it is back to normal. Lord knows what other files were corrupted when my hard drive crashed.

Hi =) Forgive me if this has already been asked, but is there an updated version which includes the newer journal sites like scribbld.net that also runs on the LJ code? If not, is there a way to alter the text box so that it says 'scribbld' instead of 'insanejournal' or the like, so I can move my entries over there? Thanks!

Yes. The easiest way is to click on the "Change journal host" menu item on the login screen.

For Scribbld, you would change the interface value to:

http://www.scribbld.net/interface/flat

There are some journals that are not compatible with LJ-Sec for one reason or another, I have not tested Scribbld yet.

It is compatible.
Postings are carried over just fine. No comments or specific user pics, though. Basically just the postings.

But I must say that this already makes me feel a lot better. Thank you for LJ-Sec!
