ljskins Submission Policy

Jul 18, 2007 13:05

All skins submitted to this community must adhere to this Submission Policy. Items marked with a (*) have been confirmed by the LiveJournal Abuse Prevention Team, who have given insight into what is legally allowed or not.

  1. If you use the official logo in your skin, small changes are permissible. (*) That would include things like:

official: submission policy, official: policies

Hi, I've just discovered the comm. Cool idea.

About #6: would it be possible to list the changes this script makes? I mean the original name of the selector vs. the new one. I've made several Horizon skins - I even wrote a howto guide with Foxfirefey - but I've used the original classes. :/

No classes are actually changed - only new ones are added. Basically, you add classes based on the schemes for which you want the style to take effect. So for example, say you removed the userpic in a style. Normally that would be something like:

#Userpic {
display: none;
}

With the script, you might change it to:

body.v2-generic #Userpic {
display: none;
}

The "v2-generic" class is added to both Horizon v2 and Vertigo v2, but you can also target specific schemes using "horizon2" and "vertigo2". I'll get a full reference up at some point.

And... this community still isn't actually *properly* launched yet. I still need to do some additional stuff and post to lj_nifty and such. That's my fault, really, and I should stop being so lazy. ;p Anyway, hope this helps. :) You can still submit, btw - it's fine. :D

Oh! Ok, got it. Too bad going through GM seems to slow things down a bit - I see the original style for a very short while. If I want to submit a style, is it ok to add body.v2-generic only to certain selectors? Those that have a generic name. For example, I doubt #NavigationWelcomeLogo or #WelcomeViewLinks are used in any layouts or other parts of LJ.

Sorry to bother you but I have more questions.

#1 I'm used to customizing Horizon pretty extensively. You can see what I mean here. Were I to submit a skin I wouldn't make all the elements that bothers me disappear, of course, but would moving things around still be all right? You can see that I make the top links be on one line for example. Is that ok?
I also like keeping the same color scheme throughout a good part of the site meaning that I change the color of a lot of stuff such as comment headers, table headers, etc. This ok too or should I stick to the navigation area?

#2 I don't care much about what Horizon looks like when I'm logged out because I'm very rarely logged out and I don't care much about what Horizon looks like in ScrapBook because I don't use it. Is that a problem if I want to submit a skin?

I can't remember if you answered my private message so I'll ask again here. Are styles which skins the profile page or any other page and not the whole site acceptable or not?

Sorry for the late response. I did get your PM and have been meaning to answer it, but everything's been weird for me lately.

I created this community in the mindset that it would be for skinning the whole site, although one of my skins ( Halloween 2007) does, as well as targeting the whole site, *also* target one particular page too - the main page. In this case, though, it's a continuation of the theme - the grass at the bottom becomes filled with gravestones and Frank sees a ghost when you hover over him. Both of those mods were also in the original version of the scheme at the time, too ( ... )

No problem, I understand. Merry Christmas to you too. :)
