I'm told that the boy stripper situation is also very good. I've been curious to see for myself, but I'm not sure if I would enjoy it. That one in Phoenix was kinda fun, but that may have been the fact that a bunch of people took me, and it was a new experience. IDK.
Are houses there cheap? I know property taxes are crazy high. Maybe needs some investigation.
Yeah, unemployment is bad, but I hear that things are starting to look up in the greater Portland area.
If one is moving to the suburbs or renting a run down house in a nice neighborhood, housing is cheap.
Also, I'm able to afford a one bedroom in modern construction downtown with my own washer and dryer here. In Seattle I had to have a housemate and split a 2 br/1 bath.
Hm. I did some peeking on Redfin, and wasn't blown away by prices downtown. Things which would be listed for around $450k in Seattle were around $375k in Portland, and property taxes were about 30% higher there. Rentals in the Pearl District seem to only be about 10-15% lower than here also. I'm not blown away by the difference. *shrug* Maybe things are different outside the core.
