Nice story so far.

The only thing I saw was that for "excuse me" you typed "gomen kudasai", "gomen" meaning "sorry" and "kudasai meaning "please give me". In this case, "excuse me" would be "sumimasen". "Gomen nasai" means "I'm sorry".

Although "gomen" means "sorry", the expression "gomen kudasai" really means "excuse me". It's less formal than "sumimasen". Maybe it's not correct but the expression exists and it's frequently used - I'm sure of it because my grandparents used it, and they were Japanese :)
