On Doctor Who: Have you seen Torchwood yet? It takes place between season 2 and 3 of Doctor Who, and in fact, the finale takes place *right* before the episode you are about to watch. Highly recommended if you have not seen them yet. (Bittorrent seems to be the only way to get them in the US at the moment, though BBC America is supposed to start airing them soon.
I've wanted to see Torchwood since I first heard about it when it first began in the UK. I just didn't want to bittorrent it. We have an all-region DVD player that in theory could play the Region 1 DVDs, but we haven't gotten around to it. Now the DVD player is broken. It's not a good week for digital technology at the Burning Hand.
We also don't have BBC America. So we lose any way you look at it.
I could probably burn them to some kind of media for you (I currently have them on my flash drive).
The only other option I could think of would be to add you as a user on my Orb server, then you could stream them. (of course that's moot until you get net access back.)
We've been having trouble with our Comcast internet service the last few days, so it's not all sunshine and roses with other services. It's sporadic, so I keep canceling and then remaking service appointments. Finally, the lady I talked to today said that the sporadic problems are the biggest PITAs for the techs, but to NOT cancel the appt this time, whether the service normalizes or not.
I just hate having people I don't know in the house. freaks me out.
Comcast doesn't let you have a Static IP (then again, Verizon's FiOS service only lets you have it for an additional $50/month.) You also can't choose another ISP. Verizon's intention is to put Infinity Internet and other smaller ISPs out of business.
All monopoly telecom/broadband providers suck, and the government sucks for allowing them to get away with it.
The only reason *I* can't choose another ISP is because Verizon is too lazy to come out here and change ONE STUPID CIRCUIT BOARD in the box down the street so the neighborhood copper can accept digital signals.
ONE STUPID BOARD. The Verizon repair dude told me that years ago. Verizon could actually give Comcast a run for their money if they'd move, but nooo.... they send us stupid offers for "bundles" that they can't provide (except for the DirecTV part, and we already have that).
ARGH
Also, I don't care about the static IP part, although P does. enh
Sorry to hear about your Internet woes. Q called me earlier this afternoon and mentioned!
But on the other hand, oh my yes indeedy, the tail end of Series 3 of Le Docteur perks up considerably. Mmm, "Blink". I'm looking forward to seeing that on the list for the Hugos next year. In an ideal world, it'll also be up against "Human Nature"/"The Family of Blood", which will be a delightful voting quandary.
