Second NaNo 2011 Entry: Life and Living

Pathetically short, really, but oh well.

Day 2: Life and Living
Summary: Life was so tangible just before death.

He felt so alive in those moments before death. He could feel his pulse thudding in his ear, working to keep blood flowing to his organs, to keep oxygen coming to his brains, even as the red liquid spilled out over his hands. He could feel the twitch of every muscle, the spasms of lungs that struggled to take air. Each gulp of oxygen he swallowed tasted sweeter than any breath ever had before, and he could almost imagine that he felt the molecules zipping about, fluttering with that energy that controlled life.

He'd never been one for thinking much and he didn't bother to fathom why it was those few moments preceding death that made him feel drunk on the simple sensation of being alive. Thinking about things only ruined them, anyway, and he'd rather just feel, experience that exquisite sensation as often as possible.

So he did. And when he watched the life drain from the girl's eyes, he felt more alive than ever before.
