Background: Amber was born in sunny California on a blazing hot afternoon. Her mother died of childbirth and left the parenting to her father. Some would say that the absence of a mother is why Amber's so tomboyish, but she would say that it's just a part of who she is. Though her father did definitely affect the way she grew up, from the awkward puberty talks to their shared passion of basketball. Amber's childhood was fairly uneventful, except for the numerous uncomfortable moments when people commented on her lack of typical feminine behavior without much tact. She and her father moved to South Korea when she was 13 because of a better paying job his company offered him.
Adjusting to the new language was hard at first, especially since English and Chinese were already jumbled up in her head, but she soon learned enough Korean to make friends. In her senior year of high school she was roped into auditioning for DY Ent by one of her close friends. It was no secret that she enjoyed dancing, and singing too, but she never thought of herself as 'idol material'. That question is still in the air however, since she really hasn't debuted yet. At first, she didn't want to join. Despite her love of the famed Dog, her friend didn't get past the first round and her father wasn't very supportive. He wanted Amber to continue her studies and settle down with a nice job someday. The idol business was still risky, and Amber didn't display her talents and passion for it to her father.
Amber's father's approval was all it took. She still doesn't know to this day why he suddenly changed his mind. He saw her dancing and realized that the best thing for his daughter wasnt to constrain her to a set life, but to let her explore her options and find out if the idol life is really what she wants. His views of DYE are slowly deterioating (why is my daughter not debuting?!), but he's her number one supporter and believes that she'll be a huge success.
Five years sounds like a pretty long time, but Amber usually isn't that bothered by it. Not only has she made some awesome friends, but she knows that there's always improvements to be made in her singing and dancing skills. Sometimes, she does wonder why she hasn't been chosen for the next idol group but she trusts CEO Dongyi's judgement - as eccentric as he is.
And don't tell anyone, but she feeds Dog his favorite treats on a weekly basis behind CEO Dongyi's back.
Personality: Amber easily makes friends and is a chill person to hang out with. Calling her a dork would be an understatement; she loves to fool around and crack jokes (even if they're really silly and stupid). She shrugs off most problems and doesn't worry too much about menial things, though this doesn't mean she never has moments where she worries about others. She's a fairly easygoing person and gets along with most of the people she meets. When her temper flares it's usually when someone she cares about is harmed or mad.
The main thing that people seem to remember is how tomboyish she is. In addition to how she dresses in masculine clothes, she's not a very feminine person in how she acts and behaves. She also doesn't fit the box that people create for what falls under a "regular woman" or not. Her response to people who mistake her for a boy is usually laughter, sometimes annoyance, though she's grown used to it by now. It can be source of frustration and confusion, because way she presents herself is important to her and constantly under pressure from strangers and friends alike.
Contrary to popular belief, there are still feminine aspects about her. Amber dresses up once in a while (usually when threatened), and still enjoys the "girl talks" that she has with other women. Like any other person, she has a softer side that's only shown to a few people. Amber can be awkward when she's thrown into odd situations, and has occasional bouts of shyness.
Some of her favorite hobbies are playing games and sports. First Person Shooters are more of her style compared to Role Playing Games, and she has been in love with basketball since she could shoot. Dancing came before singing for her, and she has a lot more confidence in the former. Amber's a hardworking and humble person (even if she jokes that's just because she hasn't had a taste of fame yet). Even after 5 years of training and watching other people debut before her, she's kept her impatience under wraps and trains as hard as she did the first day.
