You raise a very good point, and I am suddenly aware of how wasteful Harry is in most of the fanfics I've come across. I think too many ficcers are thinking Harry Potter magic which is a shame because the Dresden magic is much more appealing to me. If coffee and Jolt cola can be potion bases, I'm down with that.

I only read the first book, and that was long ago enough that I barely remember it, and even I know that Harry is smarter and more resourceful than that. Wow.

That reminds me, I should pick that up again, I have the first three or four sitting on my shelf gathering dust...

I'm only halfway through the third book. I will say that Harry seems pretty stupid about women (but hey, that's common in men), but otherwise, yeah, much smarter and more resourceful.

This author is one of the more prolific ones in Dresden Files on AO3 and after skimming two more of her fics, I started wondering if she's read any of the books.
