Haven't been around online for a long time, but I'm still here. Still alive. Just been busy doing other things. I'm looking forward to the return of my parents because everything's just a little off kilter without their routine presence. Also, housesitting is kind of exhausting; I don't know how my brother did it for 6 weeks last time

I don't know if I would take that pledge quite that literally. The way I interpreted it wasn't that you necessarily could only do work that actively pursues social/environmental justice, but that the places where you worked were committed to supporting those causes. For example, this summer I'm working at a greeting card company - the cards themselves, being the number one purpose of the company, aren't going to change the world, but they do have lines of cards whose profits go to benefit different charities, and they only use materials from environmentally-conscious companies. Granted, the cards are somewhat expensive, and they're definitely catering to a certain segment of the population, but I'd still don't think that this job would be a violation of that pledge, if I took it. I mean, I don't really think that pledge was meant to keep kids from waiting tables and doing other things they have to do to make a living - as long as those restaurants aren't, for example, only hiring pretty, skinny white girls [please note that the
