Lloyd's life has not actually left him with the impression that it's an altogether bad idea to be on conversational terms with crazy killers who stalk him everywhere and paint themselves with blood for fun. None of this really bothers him aside from the "oh my god, you are so creepy" level. This face forever. THIS IS MY CLAIRE STANFIELD FACE.
It's kind of annoying that he can't hit him, but Lloyd never actually... doubts that if something terrible happened, he could do something about Claire. I don't know how we'd work that out between us oocly if it came down to it, but Lloyd does not doubt it; he does not doubt his ability to do pretty much anything if he tries hard enough, except perhaps math homework. So he's willing to relax around Claire and take him at his word for now
( ... )
CLAIRE WILL NEVER HURT LLOYD EVER, he enjoys him so much. He'd really like to just play around with Lloyd, see more of Lloyd's techniques and abilities, then grab a beer and just laugh and chill. I think Claire amps up the creeper tendencies around Lloyd because of how much he likes him, actually. IT'S SEMI-AFFECTIONATE. Or something. Claire finds the more they talk and hang out, the more he likes Lloyd. He doesn't expect Lloyd to approve of everything he does or understand his motives, but Claire is someone who genuinely enjoys people, especially people who are so obviously good. Lloyd is the epitome of all of that.
He thinks teaching Lloyd acrobatics would be a lot of fun. And it's possible that someday, when brohood has been reached, that Claire will allow Lloyd to land a hit on him. Also, if anyone ever threatens Lloyd in a way that Lloyd cannot defend himself from, Claire will tear them to pieces.
Raine is party! She is in the group of people Lloyd trusts and loves more than anyone ever. I assume the entire party knows that Lloyd would do pretty much anything for them except homework. On an individual level, Lloyd respects Raine really deeply because she was his teacher for so long, and she's so competent and capable; he understands a lot of things about her much better in the light of finding out she was a half elf back in game 1. He will listen to her planning advice if she gives it when they're trying to figure out how to make SHEER NAKED DREAMS --> REALITY, and he will tell anyone who asks that she is the best teacher ever. If they actually hook up like you can do in DotNW I assume he calls her Professor Sage in bed by accident and she hits him.
Luckily for their ability to interact with each other as something other than EXTREMELY SERIOUS ROLES, Lloyd's main thing is that he looks at people and sees people. And he does see Mithos as a person, and one who he likes, even though he's messed up. He knows he'll never get some things about the half elf experience and he doesn't care! Mithos the person cares about Genis, and yells, and attempts to punch Lloyd while looking like he's going to cry, and stops when Lloyd puts a hand on his shoulder. Mithos the person was their friend, even if it was a lie! (Zelos started out as a lie, too.) He likes that person. He wants to use Mithos the icon's example to make a world where Mithos the individual would have felt okay growing up. He also would like Mithos the individual's friendship and approval, but he can live without it
( ... )
...In his own way Mithos was missing Lloyd SO HARD. Lloyd being in camp fills this hole in his life that he wasn't even aware was there, with that ridiculous optimism to offset his own pessimism. As rivals/opponents/mirrors/whatever else canon sets them as, they balance each other out a lot, and with that element missing from his life Mithos was losing faith in a lot of things in camp without anyone doing much to restore it. Lloyd fulfils that role for him, that faith, in a somewhat different way than Genis does. Because Genis is also all about the power of friendship and relentless topping and whatnot, but he tends to temper that with logic and reason, whereas Lloyd is all SCREW THAT. He needs that too.
BUT. But! He doesn't quite want Lloyd here, because paranoia! Aselia's run on its past and present heroes for so long that oh god, if he's here and Lloyd's here and most of the party's here, then what is even holding up the world back home? Who's there to defend Aselia? To defend Martel?! Lloyd could be doing that instead
( ... )
I NEVER REALLY CARED ABOUT LLOYD AND GENIS'S FRIENDSHIP AT ALL WHEN I PLAYED THE GAME
AND THEN I STARTED PLAYING OFF OF YOU AND SUDDENLY IT ALL BECAME CLEAR TO ME AND I SHIPPED THEM PLATONICALLY 4LIFE
Lloyd loves Genis so friggin much. Genis is party, but he's also Lloyd's childhood. Their constant bickering grounds him in reality or something. Lloyd really needs someone to be bitching him out like, all the time, it balances his insane cheerfulness. HE NEEDS TO BE IRRITATED. He has TOTAL CONFIDENCE in Genis in a way that Genis probably doesn't honestly have in him; I don't think they fill quite the same roles for one another? But he's something like the little brother Lloyd never had. He will never be jealous over Genis's other friendships but he will derp after him to make sure he doesn't get hurt while frolicing through fandahlias forever. It's depressing to think that the world worked out in such a way that Genis didn't feel safe telling him he was a half-elf till it had to come out, but he doesn't really
( ... )
8D I LOVE YOU TOO. I am sad the game doesn't give us more of Genis and Colette's relationship because DUMBTRIO ♥
...anyway, Genis is so platonicgay for Lloyd you have no idea. Like I said in my previous essay(s) to Mithos, Lloyd as a hero is very much a role model and inspiration to Genis. He's so strong and upbeat and being around him makes Genis want to be a better person--and it makes him feel like he can be that better person. IT'S LIKE LLOYD IS ~THE SUN~ or something cheesy like that. I think it's even more effective because Genis has been with Lloyd so long and he knows he isn't perfect. He's seen Lloyd make mistakes and grow, and become this person who Genis honestly believes can do anything in the world (except scholarly things probably). So rather than putting Lloyd on a pedestal, it's more like Lloyd represents so much potential, and he brings it out in other people too
