I would like to hear your thoughts on money and food, if you ever do feel like getting into that. This whole discussion was interesting to me. I don't even have kids, and my weight loss attempts are futile, but trying to lose weight at all was a pretty recent development. I gave it a month and am on the verge of giving up tracking calories. (1220 was my calorie goal before exercise and it was kind of doable, as long as I didn't go out to eat....but I go out to eat quite a bit.)
The short version is eating healthy is expensive. The first time I did Weight Watchers the first time, my grocery bill went up because fresh fruits and veggies, leaner meats, and packaged diet food (I do love those Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches) are expensive. But more than that, I look at my in-laws, who were always on the poverty line. The food my husband grew up on- boxed fried chicken, Kraft mac-n-cheese, hot dogs, etc. Was food they ate partly because it was cheap. It's really hard for people who are struggling for money to change their diet, because processed food is cheap and whole food is not. Not that you can't eat healthier on a limited budget, but it's definitely difficult. Especially if you don't like beans or rice. I can probably dig up posts and statistics and stuff if you want

It sucks that we're all so critical of ourselves in the Western world, with all the media bombardment. A lot of people consider me thin, but I've had plenty of dissatisfaction with how my weight is distributed, of my "trouble spots". Frankly, though, I'd be the person to eat, just in moderation - except that right now I have so many restrictions, I probably would have passed on almost everything anyway. :P Sorry the normally fun event bummed you out.
Frankly, even if your weight isn't where you want, if you can run the distances you can, then you are HEALTHY. And awesome. :D
It seems like MOPS was a supportive place when you needed it.
I blame our diet on the food issues. We used to eat whole, healthy food. Then they messed with farming and agriculture, convenience foods were invented and here we all.
We all want a short cut. There's no shortcut, unfortunately. Good food takes time and healthy food, doesn't always taste tasty. (Or salty, I guess I mean.)
It took me four years to lose 45 pounds. It's a marathon, but if someone had told me that four years ago, gosh, it would have seemed impossible. But that's how I had to do it healthily and so my body doesn't freak out. I got my first migraine a few weeks ago due to stress and skipping lunch and delaying dinner. My body tells me what it needs.
