It's not weird for me, although I always really appreciate it when someone is there. I run alone anyway, and it kind of is my "me" time. Plus, there's just the practicality of it. Race days are usually entire days to myself, which isn't something I get often. And although I didn't have anyone there, the volunteers at the end were all cheering for me. One nice thing about this race was our bibs had our names on them, so they could even cheer us on by name. So it's not bad at all for me personally, although I'm sure others feel differently!
Wow, great race report! You executed perfectly. It sounds like this race had a ton of nice amenities. You are going to have an awesome A race this spring!
I am still considering Delaware-- I feel like my legs have got another marathon in them this spring.
Thanks! I know you said you were considering doing that one at some point, and I definitely recommend it, if you're not doing Athens or some other fabulous place or something :) (My Arby's post race meal (and Red Robin later that night) should not even be in the same room as your steak frites!)
And whoohoo- if you do decide to do Delaware, let me know! We can hang out at the beginning, anyway :)
Glad the recipe turned out to be such a hit! :D I made a batch for the teacher appreciation lunch at the middle school last month, and they disappeared there, too.
Congrats on another great marathon time! The hills sound sucky, as does running alone (that really killed Will, emotionally, when he ran the Atlantic City marathon), but it sounds like you didn't let it get to you. You're going to rock the 50K!
And thanks! The running alone is definitely a bit of a mental drain, and it made me glad I train alone. There was also something about the countryside that made it at least feel appropriate, I guess. I'll bet it would be even tougher in Atlantic City!

It's it weird or good that you go by yourself with no friends or family at the end of the race? Just curious.
And yay, chocolate shakes! Sometime the belly just doesn't want to digest anything difficult. I hear that.
